For the past several seasons, we have participated in the Forward Specialty Green Coffee Lottery. This is a competition where an unknown coffee is selected by Forward and the participating roasters have to roast it however they want. The submitted coffee is judged on a modified Specialty Coffee Association cupping form. Example characteristics include body, acidity, sweetness, and complexity. Basically, the tastiest coffee wins.
Our submitted coffee took first place. The coffee was a naturally processed typica from Hacienda La Papaya in Ecuador. This is an exceptionally processed coffee that leads to a very clean and complex natural. The body is unreal and you will find flavours of grape, plum, stonefruit, along with a honey sweetness. This coffee will shine at any brew method. My favourite is a pourover to highlight the complexities and body of the coffee.
